Fourth of July Fun Facts that Dazzle

July 02, 2025

With America’s birthday just around the corner, you might be among the more than 70% of Americans planning to attend a cookout, BBQ, or party to celebrate our nation’s independence. It’s a proper kickoff to summer, after all! Whatever you choose to do, dazzle your Fourth of July compatriots with these fun facts about America’s favorite summertime holiday.

Fun Fact #1:Do you want ketchup with that?

Fourth of July celebrators consume one hundred fifty million hotdogs every year. That’s a hot dog for almost half the U.S. population!

Fun Fact #2:Night of a thousand sparks.

Every year Americans pay more than $1 billion on sparklers, roman candles, bottle rockets, and more to light up the night sky. Ooh! Aah!

Fun Fact #3: July 2 doesn’t have the same ring.

The official vote for America’s independence from Britain occurred on July 2, 1776. But, the “Declaration of Independence” as we know it wasn’t published until July 4. Only two men signed the declaration on the 4th; John Hancock and Charles Thompson. The others signed over in July.

Fun Fact #4: Don’t get arrested by the flag police!

Technically, wearing clothing with the U.S. flag emblazoned is a violation of the U.S. Flag Code. But, the code isn’t enforced, and over a quarter of Americans purchase patriotic merchandise for the holiday.

Fun Fact #5: Uncanny timing.

Two of America’s founding fathers, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, died five hours apart on July 4, 1826 — the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

We hope these fun facts add some sparks to your celebrations and that you have a safe and happy 4th of July!
